BBC documentary Peter Ball case

Exposed: the Church’s Darkest Secret

The powerful BBC documentary Exposed: the Church’s Darkest Secret which aired on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 January 2020 is a stark and important reminder of the serious sexual wrongdoing of Peter Ball against many young men, including Neil Todd who took his own life, and the complete failure of the Church to respond appropriately over a period of many years.

The Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich is committed to following the guidance and standards set by Archbishop Justin Welby and the National Church in implementing the recommendations of independent external inquiries and reports. We recognise from listening to survivors that the effects of abuse are lifelong and acknowledge that safeguarding should be at the heart of our Christian faith.

If anybody was affected by this programme, please contact Karen Galloway, our Diocesan Safeguarding Manager on 01473 298500 or 07785 621319.

We appreciate that this option may not feel safe for those with a lived experience of abuse from within the Church and a dedicated telephone helpline, operating independently from the Church, has been set up, the number is 0800 80 20 20 and is being run by the NSPCC Helpline for Children and Adults.
