Angels and lights Project - Bradfield St George and Little Whelnetham

Bradfield St George and Little Whelnetham’s received £200 Growth Funding for their Angels and Lights project, bringing festive cheer over the Christmas period!

After the success of their last Christmas project (which you can read about here, the two parishes decided that they wished to continue the Christmas tradition and remind people that their local churches were still there for them during the difficult and ongoing COVID period.

After some deliberation, an idea came about that it would be lovely if people would be able to go around the villages finding angels – and this idea soon quickly evolved into “it would be even better if we could get an angel into each household!” Champion knitter Joyce Cocksedge (whom you can read more about here) of Cockfield was called upon, and had knitted an incredible total of 200 angels for the cause, often knitting 4-5 angels in an evening. Other knitters had also contributed angels to help make up numbers. Each angel was put in a bag along with a tea-light, and each bag was labelled with a Christmas prayer on one side and contact details for the parishes on the other. These bags were delivered alongside details of their benefice services in early December.

There have been comments about the churches that they “were helping to pull the community together” and non-church-goers have approached and asked clergy to pray for them and their families.

They aim to further build relationships within the local communities, the churches hope to follow up with further projects at Easter, and possibly a café church in the summer months.
