Stourhead Benefice | Mission to Children

A team of seven including Father Chris and the Children’s Society Organiser for Kedington Church visited the Kedington Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Beavers and Cubs in December 2025.

The first visit to each unit was made to explain the principle of the Christingle, and to hand out Christingle candle collecting boxes.

On various nights in December members of the team visited each unit.  Children were shown how to make a Christingle and told about the meaning of each part of the Christingle. Each unit was split into groups and members of the team helped them to make their own Christingles.

The youngsters then sat in a circle with their Christingles which were lit.   Father Chris led a short reflective session with prayers and blessings with the lights out and just the glow of the candles illuminating their faces.

Approximately 116 youngsters took part.

A number of the older children/youngsters were able to recall the meaning of the Christingle from the previous year and some of the younger members from Christingle services held at school. The benefice plans to hold a similar activity next year but with some variation to keep it fresh.
