Families returning to Church - Christ Church Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds

Families returning to church project at Christ Church Moreton Hall, Bury St Edmunds invites families back into church with a warm welcome!

The project, funded by a £500 grant from the Growth Fund was focused on 'growing younger' at the church.  The pandemic unfortunately had a significant impact on families and after a two year absence period. The church wanted families to have a time of worship together where they can freely move, interact with each other and learn about the gospel together, and during the pandemic the only worship that could be offered were online worship videos and a Zoom youth group. During summer 2021, the church launched an afternoon family service similar to Messy Church, but without the group meals. The service was warmly appreciated by families, and continues to run every month.

The project funding went towards specialised crafts, seasonal gift books for families, snacks and beverages meeting COVID guidelines and age appropriate toys for the group. The remaining funds are planned to be used for other children and youth ministries that develop.

As families return to use the church facilities, it is hoped that relationships can once again be built on and developed.

A parent who attends the church says: "My children love coming because it's different, they learn bible stories that aren't normally taught and engage well with other children. It's just so open and easy to come to church after COVID."

Future plans for the church include providing more for children and youth, as well as engaging in outreach events which could lead to bringing more families into church.
