The Covenant for Clergy Care and Well-being

The Covenant for Clergy Care and Wel-lbeing was made an Act of Synod at the February 2020 Group of Sessions of the General Synod. Our own Diocesan Synod adopted the covenant in October 2023.

The Covenant commits all parts of the Church, as well as individual clergy, to sharing responsibility for the welfare of ministers and their households. The full text of the Covenant can be found here

“Our vision is that the work of supporting clergy in their ministry will become an integral part of the life of the Church and part of the DNA of every aspect of our mission and ministry.” The Revd Canon Simon Butler, Head of the Clergy Covenant Working Group.

A key part of the Covenant is for laity and clergy separately and together to talk openly about clergy well-being and support in their local context.  As part of this General Synod has asked the whole church to reflect on this via questions posed in 'The Big Conversation'.
