Clergy Resources

The material on this website, whilst it may include some information on matters that are legally binding on clergy, lay ministers and other lay officers and volunteers, should be generally understood as guidance and for information unless it explicitly states otherwise. In particular, it should not be construed as forming part of any employment contract.

The Church of England does not employ clergy. However, since 2011 the majority of clergy in the Church of England hold their Ecclesiastical Office under common tenure. This is part of a framework of terms of service that brings security, clarity, and the opportunity for people to work together to encourage and support the clergy's ministry. It also places certain expectations on how clergy should behave.
