Assistant to the Archdeacon for Rural Mission (Chaplaincy Specialist)

As part of the Growing in God in the countryside project the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich is seeking to appoint a temporary assistant to the project director, the Archdeacon for Rural Mission. As well as assisting the Archdeacon for Rural Mission on all aspects of the project, as required, the postholder will also be responsible for starting to develop Chaplaincy at Easton and Otley College (Otley Campus) on the back of a recently agreed memorandum of understanding between the college and the diocese.

This role, which may be lay or ordained, will report to the Archdeacon for Rural Mission and will be for a limited period of six months, 2-3 days per week.

The purpose of this role is to assist the Archdeacon for Rural Mission in fulfilling her role as project director, as well as working with her on the initial stages of establishing chaplaincy at Otley College, forming the framework and structure for ongoing chaplaincy work.

In developing the chaplaincy work, the focus will be on establishing sustainable structures and methods of working to

  • provide opportunities and options for pastoral care and the development of wellbeing to students, staff and other stakeholders at Otley Campus.
  • develop opportunities for spiritual development and engagement among students, staff and other stakeholders at the Otley Campus
  • support the college in wide engagement with the wider community in Suffolk and initially to develop a partnership in this area between the Otley campus and the Lightwave project
