Diocesan Board of Education - New Chair
Thursday 7th November 2019
The Diocesan Board of Education (DBE) works with church schools to support school improvements, assist with specific functions and responsibilities for church schools, and support with RE and Collective Worship and education in the diocese more widely. Our schools offer an education that is ‘Deeply Christian, Serving the Common Good’. The DBE committee meets regularly during the year to achieve its goals and today we announce that Archdeacon David Jenkins is standing down as Chair of the committee to focus on other areas of work. We are delighted that Bishop Mike will be the new Chair of the committee from January 2020.
Bishop Mike says: “After ten years as Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE), Archdeacon David is stepping down from the DBE on 31 December. I would like to pay tribute to David for his commitment to education in the diocese. David’s role as Archdeacon of Sudbury is a busy one and he is also chairing the Church Buildings Review Group. I will be taking up the chair of the DBE from 1st January and look forward to working more closely with schools. Church schools play a vital role in the life of the diocese and I am delighted to become more involved in their work.”
Archdeacon David comments: “It has been a pleasure to chair the DBE over the past ten years. Prior to that, as DDE in Carlisle Diocese, I saw first-hand how important church schools are to their local community. This is equally true in Suffolk, where education is central to the work of the Church of England. I wish Bishop Mike all the best as he takes on the chair of the DBE.”
We are wholeheartedly grateful for David’s decade of service to the DBE and welcome Bishop Mike to the position, with a focus on our ‘vision for education’.
