Inspiring Ipswich Eco Church

A Rocha Bronze, Silver and Gold Eco Awards

In the deanery we encourage and support churches to reduce their impact on the environment and help them to care more practically for God’s environment. The A Rocha Eco Church Awards are one way we do this. The scheme urges churches to consider five areas of church life with the environment in mind:

  • Worship and teaching
  • Buildings
  • Land
  • Community and global engagement
  • Lifestyle

By taking a simple survey a church representative can input responses and find out where the church is doing well and where they can improve. Many churches have signed up and a dozen have received their bronze award, two churches have made it to silver and one church is close to Gold!

Why not ask your PCC if you can help with this project?

Energy Footprint Tool

Another way churches can help is by using the Energy Footprint Tool and most of our churches in Ipswich are now signed up.

The Church of England Energy Footprint Tool allows churches to enter their utility bills and find out their 'carbon footprint'. It is completed through the Online Parish Returns System and is completed by incumbents, churchwardens or treasurers. The tool is completed each year so churches can track their progress and make adjustments if necessary. Small changes make a big difference!
