A team of volunteers from St Augustine’s Church in Ipswich were on hand to offer a warm welcome and refreshments to visitors in the Church of England marquee, they served over 2000 teas and coffees to thirsty show goers. The volunteer team from the Cathedral’s Discovery Centre entertained over 1000 children with craft activities. In addition all visitors were offered the chance to engage with our hourly #BigQuestions slot. Clergy and laity were on hand to answer any question on life or faith and questions came from the visitors, social media and on video from towns across Suffolk. For the first time we broadcast live video from the show and you can watch this on the diocesan facebook page at www.facebook.com/CofESuffolk.
Our presence at the Suffolk Show has been possible due to generous financial donations from individuals and trust funds for which we are enormously grateful. We hope to be back again next year if further funding can be sought.
Gavin Stone, Assistant Diocesan Secretary, who manages the church marquee said, “It is wonderful to have the support of churches and individuals from across Suffolk, both financially and with their time. Together we were able to engage with God’s mission by talking to and meeting with thousands of people and showing them the love of God and telling them about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Our diocesan vision is ‘Growing in God’ and through our presence at the Suffolk Show we really see this in action.”
