Safeguarding Introduction

The protection of children and vulnerable adults is a matter that has received increasing attention, both in the church and in secular society over recent years. The need to safeguard all those whom we seek to serve, most notably those most at risk of harm and abuse, is a core value of the diocese and all the measures available are used to ensure that the right people are leading its many activities, from children’s groups to pastoral care.

We are committed to obtaining Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Disclosures for all those working with children and vulnerable adults on behalf of the diocese or any parish or benefice, and for some other roles, such as specific positions of trust where it is permissible for us to do so. All those working with children are also asked to complete Group 1 safeguarding training (a paper based exercise) while those who are more heavily involved, or who lead an area of work are asked to complete Group 2 training through the diocese's training provider. Parishes are requested to sign up to a code of practice and to appoint a Parish or Benefice Safeguarding Officer. The diocese works collaboratively with Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Safeguarding Children Board, Suffolk Safeguarding Adults Board and Suffolk Police Public Protection to ensure that it is well advised in fulfilling its safeguarding responsibilities.

If a child or adult is at risk of immediate harm call 999 now.  To report an online concern to the Police Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre, click the button below.
