Come along and walk with the bishops as they travel through the North of the Diocese.

  • The walk starts 9.00am with Holy Communion at Southwold Pier.
  • Each day starts and finishes with a Church service
  • Everyone is invited although some walks are more suitable to join than others and the walks vary in length
  • There will be two Sunday Services on 10 March (Bishop Martin in St John the Baptist, Metfield and Bishop Mike in St Peter & St Paul, Fressingfield)
  • Please note that some days include private visits. (Due to safeguarding and other issues, these visits cannot include accompanying walkers).
  • The walk ends in Stowmarket on 16 March at Synod at 9.00am.

  • You do not need to attend the whole day of walking and the Bishops are more than happy for you to accompany them for parts of their journey.
  •  While the starts each morning will be on time, intermediate and especially Evening Prayer times are only approximate.

Wednesday 6 March

9am – 9.30am Ashing Service and Eucharist on Southwold Pier.

10.15 – 10.45am walk to Glochair (opportunity for coffee).

11.30 – 12 noon walk to St Margaret of Antioch, Reydon.

12.15 – 1pm walk to St Peter & St Paul, Wangford for lunch.

1.30 – 2.10pm walk to St Mary, Uggeshall.

2.25 – 2.45pm walk to St Margaret, Stoven.

3.05 – 4.30pm walk to St Peter, Redisham.

4.30pm Evening Prayer at St Peter, Redisham.

7.30pm Ash Wednesday Service at St John the Baptist’s Shadingfield followed by light refreshments.

Thursday 7 March

9am Morning Prayer at St Peter, Redisham.

9.25am – 11am walk to St Michael the Archangel, Beccles.

1.00 – 1.40pm St Michael the Archangel, Beccles to Holy Trinity, Barsham.

1.55 – 2.30pm walk to Orthodox chapel.

2.40 – 3.10pm walk to All Saints, Mettingham.

3.25 – 4.00pm walk to Holy Trinity with St Mary, Bungay.

5.30pm Evening Prayer at Holy Trinity with St Mary, Bungay.

Notes:

Public transport only available from Bungay back to Beccles.

Lunch options are available in Beccles town.

Friday 8 March

9am Morning Prayer at Holy Trinity with Mary, Bungay. 

9.30am walk to Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton where there is a small café. 

5.45pm Evening Prayer at St John the Baptist, Metfield.

7pm Social Event in Metfield Village Hall.

Sunday 10 March

9am Eucharist Service with Bishop Martin at St John, Metfield.

10.30am Contemporary Service with Bishop Mike at St Peter & St Paul, Fressingfield.

2pm walk from St John, Metfield to St Peter & St Paul, Fressingfield

4pm Evening Prayer at St Peter & St Paul, Fressingfield.

Monday 11 March

9am Morning Prayer at St Peter & St Paul, Fressingfield.

9.30 – 10.15am walk to St Andrew, Wingfield.

12.30pm at St Peter & St Paul, Hoxne.

12.45pm Lunch at the Swan Inn, Hoxne.

2pm – 4pm afternoon walk to Eye, via St Nicholas, Oakley (3pm).

4.30pm Evening Prayer at St Peter & St Paul, Eye.

6.30pm Choral Evensong followed by a reception.

Tuesday 12 March

9.30am joint School/Parish Mass with Eye Primary School at St Peter & St Paul, Eye.

10.30 – 11.10am walk to St Mary the Virgin, Yaxley.

11.25 – 11.55am walk to St Mary Magdalene, Thornham Magna.

12.10 – 12.35pm walk to Thornham Walks.

2.30 – 3.10pm pm walk to St Mary the Virgin, Mellis.

3.25 – 5.15pm walk to St Mary, Rickinghall.

5.15pm Evening Prayer at St Mary, Rickinghall.

There is a café at Thornham Walks for lunch.

12.45pm lunch at the Blue Boar pub, Walsham le Willows.

2.00 – 3.15pm walk to Wyken Vineyard (shop and café).

4.15 – 5.15pm walk to St Mary, Ixworth.

5.20pm Evening Prayer at All Saints, Ixworth Thorpe.

7.30pm Evening entertainment in the Pykerrell pub, Ixworth.

All Saints, Ixworth Thorpe is a five-minute drive away from Ixworth.

12.45 – 1pm walk to St Mary, Badwell Ash.

1.15pm Fish and Chips at St Mary, Badwell Ash.

1.45 – 3.15pm walk to St George, Wyverstone.
