In common with most dioceses, church schools seeking to become academies will normally be expected to join the Diocesan MAT. Ours is a collaborative model which enables schools to continue working closely with nearby schools.
I am pleased to report that we have successfully appointed a Head of School Improvement to the MAT. Heather Hann has been Headteacher at Holy Trinity CEVCP School, Fordham Heath, Colchester for the past six years. Heather is an Ofsted inspector and will continue to carry out Ofsted inspections. Heather previously worked for five years for Essex County Council’s School Improvement Service. Her role will involve leading on school improvement, analysing data, developing CPD and ensuring the sharing of good practice between schools in the MAT. Heather joined us on 1 September 2016.

Church schools are also advised to make early contact with the Director of Education so that appropriate support and guidance can be offered.
Schools seeking Diocesan Board of Education consent (a statutory requirement for VC and VA schools alike) are advised that the remaining DBE meetings scheduled in 2017 will be held on:
- 13 September
- 15 November
In addition Governors can seek consent outside these scheduled meetings from a Committee of the DBE established with delegated powers. Please contact the Director of Education in the first instance.
